We’re happy to announce the program of the upcoming DESIGN MEETS DATA, taking place on Nov 15th.
DESIGN MEETS DATA is a bi-monthly meet-up, bringing together people from different backgrounds who are venturing into visualization (from Design, Coding, Journalism, Science, etc.) DeMeDa is conceived as an experimental kitchen to cook up new recipes and ideas between these disciplines and more specific local communities (like Digital Humanities, Processing Berlin, Datenjournalismus Meetup, Open Data Network, etc.).
Our aim is to bring people in touch with each other over their shared interest in data visualization, regardless of their professional backgrounds or skills. You will have plenty of time to meet people and exchange thoughts during the event or at the bar afterwards.
TALK: MAPPING BERLIN’S LIVE MUSIC SCENE (JULIAN STAHNKE, FLORIAN SCHULZ)
- How does Berlin’s Live music scene look like, if you sketch it on a map?
- In which neighborhoods would you locate punk, rock, indie-tronic?
- Where do new venues pop-up, where do they disappear?
- Can Data-Viz paint a better pictre of Berlin’s venues than – say – Sven Marquardt?
Last year three uprising interaction designers Julian, Florian and Jeremias (FHP) built the multitouch application Conscape. Their goal: Well, let’s be frank, to learn how to do it and pass Till Nagel’s course “Urbane Ebenen”! Other than that: To see, if you can approach and explore Berlin’s (live) music scene through data and visualization.
In their refreshingly level-headed talk, Julian and Florian will walk us through the design process of their application. You’ll hear what they planned on doing, what problems they encountered, how they worked around them, what they achieved in the end and what you can learn from their experience.
HALF-BAKED SESSIONS: SHOW AND TELL!
You have an interesting dataset but don’t know how to bring it into meaningful shape? You’re a dataviz designer or developer and need some feedback for your work in progress? Then this is your chance! Present your ideas, sketches and half-baked projects in a one-minute pitch, gather spontaneously in small groups and sit down to discuss your project in-depth. The Half-Baked sessions are the ideal platform to promote your work, gather feedback and collect new ideas. Drop me a line, if you’d like to jump in!
